RBH submits plans for 32 “affordable” homes in Kirkholt

A mutual housing society in Rochdale has submitted plans for 32 new rented homes in Kirkholt it claims will be genuinely affordable.

Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) is looking to build 10 two-bedroom houses, 18 three-bedroom houses, and four four-bedroom houses. Furthermore, two of the latter homes are designed to accommodate a range of adaptations, creating homes suitable for families with a disabled child or parent.

The homes continue the regeneration of the Strand area. They are designed by Triangle Architects, which also designed the Strand Hub and the new Kirkholt health centre.

Working in partnership with Rochdale Council and the local community, RBH have already delivered new homes, new shops for local businesses, and the new community space at the Strand Hub. These sit alongside the health centre, delivered by the local NHS Clinical Commissioning Group and due to open later in 2020.

“The Strand has been transformed over the last few years based on a strong partnership between RBH, the council and the community,” said Clare Tostevin, RBH’s director of growth. “We are excited to put forward these further plans to deliver brand new and genuinely affordable homes to rent on the remaining vacant land.

“We received some great feedback from local people at our consultation event, especially about the homes which can be adapted if needed where a family member has additional accessibility needs”.
