LOW-INCOME households in Liverpool can find out how to save money and gain support to help lower their bills today at a free event
A survival guide event for low-income households in Liverpool is being held today to offer residents advice on saving money and reducing their bills.
The Healthy Homes Winter Survival event will offer Liverpudlians free advice on fuel poverty and debt, energy efficiency, and ways to lower their energy bills. It will also provide tips on managing finance, social inclusion, keeping active, maximising benefits, and more.
The event coincided with National Energy Action’s Fuel Poverty Awareness Day, which aims to raise awareness of the support that is available to those struggling to keep their homes suitable warm.
It is estimated that families in Liverpool are overspending by as much as £360 a year on average for their gas and electricity, according to uSwitch.com, which is taking part in the event to offer advice to residents.
“[Around] 1.6 million energy customers in the UK say they’ll be forced to choose between heating and eating this winter and nearly 17,000 of those households are in Liverpool — that’s a frightening prospect for anyone to have to face,” said Jean Graham, the company’s senior community engagement manager.
“As well as the online shopping frenzy this Friday, it’s also Fuel Poverty Awareness Day. It can be a real stretch for some people to cover all their bills and household essentials, especially as we head into winter and spend more on heating to keep warm.
“However, there are lots of ways energy costs can be reduced. On Friday, we’ll be on hand throughout the morning at the Holiday Inn on Lime Street, providing free advice and information about available Government schemes, support and grants to help people with their energy bills. We’ll also be sharing practical tips on the small changes that can be made around the home to keep costs down, as well as talking people through the process of comparing energy deals to see if they can save money by moving to a cheaper plan.”
The Healthy Homes Winter Survival Event is free to attend and is taking place today, Friday 29th November, at The Holiday Inn, Lime Street from 10.00am – 1.00pm.
