Chorley Street development in Bolton gets green light for 118 homes

A derelict former car park in Bolton is set to become a neighbourhood of 118 new homes following approval of the plans.

The development is set to be delivered by housing providers Bolton at Home and Irwell Valley Homes, with work on the town centre site expected to start by the end of this month.

Situated off Chorley Street, the development will provide a range of homes and tenures intended to meet the local housing demand.

Once complete, it will offer 17 two-, three- and four-bedroom houses with landscaped gardens. These will be available to buy through the Government’s shared ownership scheme designed to help people onto the property ladder.

The remainder of the homes will be apartments offering a mix of tenures, including “affordable” rent and Rent-to-Buy, as well as dedicated housing for older people.

“We’re thrilled to have gained planning permission for this development, which provides much-needed choice for local people in need of affordable housing,” said Dominic Conway, Bolton at Home’s director of development and growth.

“Being so close to local services, the town centre and transport links, we expect this development to prove very popular with residents, especially those working in the town centre. It will play a key role in our plans to create over 1,400 new affordable homes across the borough.”

Gaining planning permission is fantastic news. Homes England provided funding towards the development, which will be built by contractor Watson Homes. The homes have been designed by TADW architects.

At the centre of the site, 62 car parking spaces will be provided for residents living in the apartments, as well as 31 spaces for the houses. The homes will be accessed from Chorley Street, using an existing access point.
