Avant gets the go ahead for 224-home Wakefield housing scheme

A Wakefield-based homebuilder has secured planning permission to deliver a £60.9 million development in its home town.

Avent Homes plans to build 224 new homes at its City Fields development, after securing the green light from Wakefield Council. The private market scheme will deliver a selection of two-, three- and four-beroom homes across a range of the company’s design types.

Work is now underway, the housebuilder says, with the first homes due for completion in April 2020. The overall build is expected to take just over three years and will create up to 140 sales and construction jobs. The company says it will also contribute £280,000 towards local transport provision and public art.

City Fields is one of 13 developments currently under construction by Avant Homes Yorkshire and its largest to date in Wakefield. Previous successful developments in the area include The Gateway on Bar Lane to the north of the city and Redwood in the nearby village of Crigglestone.

“We’re very pleased that planning permission has been granted for our City Fields site,” said Chris Coley (main image), Avant Homes Yorkshire’s managing director. “It is in a location that is already hugely popular with homebuyers and will be a significant development for us boasting our very latest design-led modern family homes and new enhanced specification.”
