Your Housing lays first bricks for new Wythenshawe housing scheme

A ceremony to lay the first brick to mark the start of work to construct 52 new family homes in Wythenshawe in Manchester has taken place.

The housing development is by Warrington-based housing provider, Your Housing Group (YHG).

Located on Amberley Drive, the homes will include two- and three-bedroom detached and semi-detached houses. Sixteen properties will be available for shared ownership and the remaining 36 will be available for rent via Nuvu Living, YHG’s private rental brand.

The £7.3 million scheme is called Amberley Square and is part-funded through Homes England’s Shared Ownership & Affordable Homes Programme.

“We recognise that there is a lot of demand for new homes in this part of the city,” said Lorraine Donnelly, YHG’s director of development. “Amberley Square is designed with the first-time buyer in mind and will offer a range of properties to suit both couples and growing families.”

Designed by Manchester architects MHA, and being built and delivered by energy and regeneration specialist ENGIE, the scheme offers a range of properties with off-road parking for two cars and front and rear gardens.

With its proximity to Manchester Airport, Wythenshawe hospital and a number of high schools and academies, Wythenshawe is an area of south Manchester that’s growing in popularity.

YHG became one of Homes England’s Strategic Partners earlier this year.

“We’re pleased to see these new homes for people in Wythenshawe start to take shape,” said Nick Cumberland, senior specialist in home ownership and supply at Homes England. “[The agency] is committed to investing in shared ownership and rent to buy schemes that help people access the homes they need in the places they want to live – that’s why we’re supporting Amberley Square through Homes England grant funding.”

Steven Gregory, head of newbuild at ENGIE, said: “This project is now well and truly underway and we’re pleased we could bring all partners to site, to see the progress being made and witness the first superstructure brick being laid.

“We are delighted to bring our expertise to these high quality, modern homes and are committed to also supporting and investing in the local community.

“As well as offering a number of apprenticeships on this scheme, we will also be working with the local community throughout the duration of the build, to ensure we leave a lasting legacy across the Wythenshawe area.”

The first homes are scheduled to be completed by December and the whole scheme is planned to be finished by next May.
