Specialist housing provider celebrates 25 years of progress

A Lancashire housing association is getting set to celebrate its quarter century since the stock transfer that created it.

What is today Progress Housing Group began life as New Progress Housing Association in 1994. Tenants with South Ribble Borough Council had voted to transfer its 3,500 homes to the new organisation, which has since gone on to become a prominent provider of supported living housing.

Today, Progress Housing Group manages over 10,000 properties across the UK. In addition to its 500 affordable homes for rent, the group provides supported accommodation for those with learning disabilities and mental health needs, accommodation for keyworkers, supported housing for those experiencing homelessness or domestic abuse, and over 1,263 units of sheltered accommodation.

The organisation also provides telecare and technology enabled care and support (TECS) service, Progress Lifeline, which enables over 36,000 people to live safely and independently in their own homes and with piece of mind that assistance is there should they need it.

“Our 25th anniversary gives us the opportunity to reflect back on the challenges and triumphs of our first quarter century and what an incredible journey it has been,” said Jacqui De-Rose, the organisation’s group chief executive.

“We are incredibly proud of how far we have come since 1994 and the role the organisation has played in providing high quality affordable homes, and working with partner agencies to create sustainable and positive communities. This has included initiatives such as opening community centres, supporting national campaigns which have led to positive changes for our customers, as well as helping to tackle issues such as homelessness, unemployment, domestic violence and anti-social behaviour.

De-Rose added: “All of this would not have been possible without the dedication of our staff, some of whom have been with us since the beginning, board members, stakeholders, partner organisations, customers and communities at the heart of our business.

“Their hard work has enabled us to remain true to the promises we made at the time of the stock transfer in 1994 and we have continued to build on those promises to create places where people are proud to live and work.”

Over the next twelve months, Progress Housing Group intends to embark on a series of celebratory initiatives to mark its anniversary. These will include:

  • Challenge £25k – where staff will take part in all sorts of fundraising events throughout the year to help raise £25,000 for charity
  • Opportunities for staff and customers to get involved, such as through organised community volunteering days, including gardening, litter picks and DIY SOS
  • Sharing customer and staff stories over the next 12 months highlighting how the group has made a difference to them
  • Further community investment in local projects and residents including the launch of a micro-granting Community Soup initiative
  • Residents being invited to spend a day behind the scenes of Progress Housing Group
