Tyne Group completes Blaydon conversion project to make seven new homes

HOUSING provider, Tyne Group has completed a £700,000 investment to deliver seven new one- and two-bedroom homes for “affordable” rent in Blaydon, Gateshead.

The development on Lucy Street is the first in the organisation’s development portfolio to be completed. It involved the conversion of Clifford House; an empty care home in a prominent position of the town.

The project was delivered with Homes England contributing funding of £175,000 and has been designed and built by Blaydon-based company DJM Mechanical, working in partnership with Black & White Construction.

Each home has been designed to preserve the character of the building and retain some of the building’s historic features and the streetscape around, Tyne said.

“This is a really exciting time for Tyne,” said Steve McKinlay, the organisation’s chief executive. “We’re proud to be innovating our offer so that we’re able to provide more options for people to access modern, safe and affordable homes across the region.

“We’re incredibly pleased with the quality of this new development, which we’re sure will appeal to many different people who work or live in Gateshead. I would like to thank Homes England and all our partners for delivering a scheme that the people of Gateshead can be proud of.”

One-bedroom apartments will be let from £386 per calendar month and a two-bedroom apartment from £432.
