SUNDERLAND-based housing Gentoo Group has appointed Paul Redfern (pictured) as director of business assurance.
In the new post, Redfern will direct and manage the group’s internal audit function and review its approach to core business assurance activities such as risk management, control and governance processes.
His appointment follows Redfern’s six-month-term at Gentoo Group as interim head of audit.
“I’ve really enjoyed working with Gentoo Group for the last six months and I’m excited to join the team permanently,” he said. “The business is developing some ambitious plans for its future and I’m thrilled to be part of delivering those objectives for tenants, colleagues and the city of Sunderland.”
Redfern has over 40 years’ experience as an auditor and director of finance. He has worked for local and regional government bodies including City of York Council, regional development agency Yorkshire Forward and the Academy for Sustainable Communities.
He worked internationally for over a decade as chief auditor for the Jersey Government and the Government of Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates. Redfern is currently an audit committee member of the Electoral Commission and Together Housing Association and sits on the board and audit committee of Inclusion Housing.

Gentoo Group manages over 28,000 social housing properties in Sunderland. Its commercial arm, Gentoo Homes, is a “profit for purpose” business that builds more than 200 homes per year for sale, which it says helps to generate subsidy to support the delivery of more affordable rented homes across the city.
