A housing association has pledged to do its bit to support equality and diversity for all its tenants and staff.
Ahead of National Inclusion Week, runs from 24 to 30 September, Together Housing Group’s (THG) chief executive and chair of the board have signed an equality and diversity (E&D) pledge.
Before signing the pledge, THG had established as E&D steering group, appointed an E&D manager and board “champion” and published a fresh E&D policy and diversity guide for staff and its contractors.
The housing association, which operates across Yorkshire and Lancashire, is also launching a Diversity Grand Fund during National Inclusion Week. Community groups will be invited to bid for up to £1,000 each to fund events such as Pride and Mela celebrations and other events which celebrate or promote diversity.
“We are committed to embracing diversity and promoting equality of opportunity with our residents, staff and stakeholders,” said Michelle Park, THG’s equality and diversity board champion. “By valuing and respecting the contributions of everybody in the diverse communities in which we operate, we aim to foster a culture of mutual respect that enables people to thrive and realise their full potential.”
Tahir Idris, THG’s equality and diversity manager, added: “As both a provider of homes and a major employer, we recognise we have a moral and legal responsibility to promote equality and diversity in relation to our staff, customers and partners. We recognise that our customers and employees come from diverse backgrounds and have a diverse range of needs. We are proud to celebrate that diversity and will ensure that our pledge, and the values it represents, is delivered upon.”
