A Wigan-based social housing contractor has appointed three new managers to help grow its business into new sectors as it expands its geographic reach beyond the North West.
A Connolly Ltd has built its reputation social housing sector over the past 35 years. The company says this will “remain at the core” of its operation, but it is also looking to secure new work outside of this traditional remit, such as commercial refurbishment and fit-out projects.
The new appointments are to help the family business to deliver this strategic drive to diversify the business.
Ian Curme has taken up the newly created role of pre-construction manager and will take the lead on securing new-build, commercial refurbishment and development opportunities.
He will be looking for land-led new-build schemes with social landlords, as well as contracts for refurbishing commercial premises, care homes extensions and general contracting and build projects.
Before joining Connolly, Curme, who has 25 years’ experience within the sector, was head of commercial for a main contractor in Bradford. He has also previously worked as a chief estimator for Forrest.
“Connolly is a forward thinking, enthusiastic company and this new role is a great opportunity to assist the growth of the business and set up new service lines,” he said.
“It has a little bit of history in delivering new-build, and a little bit of history in delivering contracts outside of social housing but it is looking to build on its initial dalliances with these service lines to make it an established offering.”
Jonathan Mayoh has joined as senior project manager and is responsible for developing housing planned refurbishment opportunities in the Rochdale, Oldham and West Yorkshire areas.
He will also lead on Leeds City Council’s new roofing framework, which Connolly was recently appointed to. It is one of four contractors selected for the framework, which will support planned refurbishment of the council’s housing stock and will run for four years with an option to extend.
Mayoh has worked in the construction sector since joining his father’s firm at the age of 16. He later gained a BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying at the University of Northumbria and spent 13 years at BAAS Construction in Burnley prior to joining Connolly.
New procurement manager Ian Greaves’ role involves managing the procurement strategy for the whole business and engaging with local and national material supply chains.
As well as reducing supply chain costs Greaves will be setting up new storage systems at Connolly’s Wigan headquarters and ensuring that materials waste is kept to a minimum.
Previously a director at Benchmark Building Supplies Ltd, Greaves has worked for contractors including Rok and spent 20 years at an independent merchants in Bolton, working his way up from a position in the yard to procurement manager.
